Raven Wings
The Raven Wings were a peaceful tribe in the ancient world. They opted
for a life of solitude. To be in touch with nature and their parallel
spirits in the universe was more important than material matters like
the contraptions of wicked inventors. The inventors only craved for self
benefit and the fruits of their ambitions where a pure Raven Wing craved
for a perfect equilibrium between all forms of life and afterlife.
Urban legend says the wings of a raven carries lost souls to the
afterlife. The Raven Wings believed that they could harness the power
of the Raven so that they could protect their small tribe against the
Oppressors and the evils of this world which was in a continuing
decline.
Facing the tension of the rising oppression, the elders came together to
invent one of their own contraptions. They said they would never create
one due to fear of what happened to the Crimson Empire, but in an act of
desperation, principles were set aside. They combined magic and their
knowledge of the afterlife to create the Raven Mocker, a half-man,
half-raven ghost.
They reasoned a deceased soul could lure another soul out of the body
and use the raven wings to guide it to the afterlife. The kidnapping of
souls was primarily used to assassinate high military figures from the
Oppressors. After some time the Elders, who were inspired by the
inventors they used to mock, used the collected souls to bolster their
growing armies.
The Kachina Summoners who live near marshes and bogs, mastered
the dark art of creation. These puppeteers of life and death made small,
symbolic dolls which they enchanted with souls of their fallen enemies.
Those creatures were called Familiars.
Shortly after their military draft among the ranks of fallen enemies,
their army decimated a large part of the Oppression, bringing the
new world closer to equilibrium.
